God Bless America

Irving Berlin, 1938

Irving Berlin (born Israel Baline) wrote this song in 1938 for a radio singer, Kate Smith. Smith used the song on her weekly program for years, and it became a touring favorite, particularly for troops in World War II.

The God Bless America Foundation retains the copyright, and all royalties are donated to the BSA and the Girl Scouts of America.

God bless America,

Land that I love.

Stand beside her,

And guide her,

Through the night

with a light from above.

From the mountains,

To the prairies,

To the oceans

white with foam;

God bless America,

My home sweet home.

God bless America,

My home sweet home.
