Camp Winton Songbook
The Purple Porpoise
This long-winded tongue twister of a song is best done a few verses at a time.
based on "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"
Tongue Twister
This song used to have only six verses until we encountered a situation in which we needed to employ all six as a delaying tactic. The other two verses were created with the help of some scoutmasters as a result.
Each verse is added to the end of the chorus in a backwards order so that you always end with the purple porpoise. A sigh of relief at the end of the song is appropriate.
1. As one purple porpoise popped up the pole,
The other purple porpoise popped down.
As one purple porpoise popped up the pole,
The other purple porpoise popped down.
As one purple porpoise popped up the pole,
The other purple porpoise popped down.
As one purple porpoise popped up the pole,
The other purple porpoise popped down.
Glory, glory, how peculiar!
Glory, glory, how peculiar!
Glory, glory, how peculiar!
As one purple porpoise popped up the pole,
The other purple porpoise popped down.
2. As one black bear backed up the bank,
The other black bear backed down.
As one black bear backed up the bank,
The other black bear backed down.
As one black bear backed up the bank,
The other black bear backed down.
As one black bear backed up the bank,
The other black bear backed down.
Glory, glory, how peculiar!
Glory, glory, how peculiar!
Glory, glory, how peculiar!
As one black bear backed up the bank,
The other black bear backed down.
As one purple porpoise popped up the pole,
The other purple porpoise popped down.
3. As one fleet fly flew into the flue,
The other fleet fly flew out...
4. As one slimy snake slid into the slough,
The other slimy snake slid out…
5. As one black bug bled black blood,
The other black bug bled blue…
6. As one eager eagle eased into the eaves,
The other eager eagle eased out…
7. As one hedgehog edged under the hedge,
The other hedgehog edged out…
8. As one llama licked lemon lollipops,
The other llama licked lime...
