On My Honor

Harry Bartelt, 1947

Harry Bartelt was a dedicated Scouter who wanted to put the Scout Oath into music. After many years of frustration (as he was not musically trained), he debuted this song at the 1947 National Scout Executives Conference.

It has gone on to be considered one of the foundational Scouting songs, and has even been spotted internationally.

Too high for you? Here is a transposed version.

On my honor, I'll do my best

to do my duty to God.

On my honor, I'll do my best

to serve my country as I may.

On my honor, I'll do my best

to do my Good Turn each day;

to keep my body strengthened,

and keep my mind awakened,

to follow paths of righteousness;

on my honor, I'll do my best.
